An inmate contacted the Ombudsman because he believed that the jail had not received the paperwork from his sentencing hearing the day before, which meant he could not be released. The Ombudsman reviewed the DOC’s case management system and discovered that the jail had received the paperwork and completed the inmate’s time accounting record. However, the release date was weeks in the future, not immediately. The Ombudsman reviewed the records and discovered that DOC had missed five weeks of prior service on the case. The Ombudsman notified DOC Records of the mistake and the inmate was released later the same day. (A2016-0057)
