In by ombudsman

An inmate walked away from a halfway house and had his offender account funds forfeited to DOC, as allowed by regulation. He subsequently appealed and was told that DOC would return his money. He contacted the Ombudsman several months later when the funds still had not been returned to his account. He had addressed the problem with institutional staff without success but was unable to determine who else to contact because the employee name on paperwork relating to the issue was unintelligible. The Ombudsman contacted the division director for administrative services who researched the issue and determined that the $2,086 had indeed not been refunded to the inmate. She directed that it be returned to his offender account, thus resolving the complaint. (A2016-1524)
